The Central Moves team have been absolutely fantastic, so kind, friendly and communicative in all work they've carried out with us. I work for a local charity and they have been an amazing support in helping us get stock from A to B, thereby enabling us to better support local people in crisis. Highly recommend!

Central moves are a very professional company, the service was excellent. All costs were discussed ahead of the booking and the estimate was accurate. The two men who carried out the move were extremely helpful and polite. I’m very pleased with this company so much so that I had use them before and I will do so again in future.

Everyone at this company have been superb. For a start, all my phone calls to them were answered within 3 rings - always a good sign. The Movers were careful in the way they handled my belongings and they were very honest. In fact they found my wife's diamond ring which was lost for 15 years! None of my belongings were damaged (there were 6 'crates' of them) and the dismantling and reassembling of my furniture also went well. The office staff were always friendly and helpful and made you feel that they would do anything to make your life easier. Thanks to all and keep up the good work.

A Complete Area Guide to Middlesex

Removals-middlesex London

Middlesex, once a historic county in the south of England, is now a thriving part of Greater London and the surrounding areas. With its rich heritage, excellent transport links, and diverse communities, Middlesex offers an ideal mix of suburban tranquillity and urban convenience. Whether you’re a family looking for great schools, a professional commuting into London, or a retiree seeking a peaceful yet connected community, Middlesex has something for everyone.

In this comprehensive area guide, we’ll explore the history of Middlesex, its transition into the modern era, and the best areas to live today.

A Brief History of Middlesex

The county of Middlesex has a history that dates back over a thousand years. First established during the Anglo-Saxon period, Middlesex’s name means “middle Saxons,” referring to its geographical location between the Thames and Hertfordshire.

Throughout the centuries, Middlesex became an important agricultural and trading hub due to its proximity to London. It was a county of market towns and small villages, some of which have now become bustling suburban areas. Many parts of Middlesex were absorbed into Greater London in 1965, making it no longer a county in its own right, but its legacy and identity remain strong in the minds of residents and historians alike.

Middlesex has played a significant role in British history. It is home to landmarks such as Hampton Court Palace, where Henry VIII lived, and Syon House, the magnificent estate of the Duke of Northumberland. Its connection to the River Thames has always been crucial, with many towns and villages growing around river trade.

Middlesex Today: A Desirable Place to Live

While Middlesex may no longer exist as an official county, the areas that were once part of it continue to thrive. From suburban towns to riverside neighbourhoods, it offers a variety of living options to suit all lifestyles.

Here’s a look at some of the most popular areas to live in Middlesex today:

1. Twickenham

Ideal for: Families, Couples, and Rugby Fans

Twickenham is synonymous with rugby, being the home of England Rugby and Twickenham Stadium. This riverside town offers excellent schools, making it a popular choice for families. Its charming high street, with a mix of independent shops, cafes, and restaurants, adds to the appeal. Twickenham’s location on the River Thames also provides stunning riverside walks and plenty of green spaces, including Marble Hill Park and York House Gardens.

The area is well-connected to Central London, with direct train services to Waterloo taking around 20 minutes, making it ideal for professionals who want a peaceful home life with easy access to the capital.

2. Richmond

Ideal for: Families, Retirees, and Nature Lovers

Richmond is one of the most sought-after areas not only in Middlesex but across London. Known for its vast open spaces like Richmond Park, which is home to deer herds and beautiful walking trails, it offers an idyllic lifestyle. Richmond’s Georgian architecture, high-end shopping, and riverside pubs make it a favourite for families, professionals, and retirees alike.

Living in Richmond comes with a higher price tag, but the quality of life, proximity to nature, and excellent schools make it a worthwhile investment. The area is well-connected via the London Underground, Overground, and National Rail services, making commuting into the city simple.

3. Staines-upon-Thames

Ideal for: Young Professionals, Families, and Water Enthusiasts

Staines-upon-Thames is a historic market town that has grown into a bustling suburban hub. Its location on the River Thames makes it a beautiful spot for waterside living, with plenty of opportunities for boating and riverside walks. Staines offers a more affordable living option compared to some of the other areas in Middlesex, making it attractive to young professionals and families.

With its excellent transport links, including direct trains to London Waterloo in around 35 minutes, and close proximity to Heathrow Airport, it’s a well-connected location for those who travel frequently.

4. Isleworth

Ideal for: Professionals, Families, and Retirees

Isleworth is a quiet residential area with a village-like atmosphere, offering a blend of period properties and modern homes. Its proximity to Richmond and Twickenham makes it ideal for those who want to enjoy the amenities of these larger areas while residing in a more affordable and peaceful location. Isleworth is also home to Syon Park, a stunning estate with beautiful gardens and a grand mansion.

Families are drawn to Isleworth for its good schools, while professionals appreciate the excellent transport links, including quick access to the A4, M4, and Heathrow Airport.

5. Harrow

Ideal for: Families and Professionals

Harrow is a large suburban town that offers great schools, green spaces, and a bustling town centre. Harrow on the Hill is the historic heart of the area, known for the prestigious Harrow School, which has educated many famous figures, including Winston Churchill.

The area offers a mix of period properties, modern developments, and affordable housing, making it attractive to a diverse range of people. Harrow is also well-connected via the London Underground’s Metropolitan Line, providing easy access to central London.
