Health insurance is administered by the social security system; “Sécurité Sociale”, and your “Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie”. For residents in France, a “mutuelle” (top-up insurance cover) covers the cost of healthcare that is not covered by a Carte Vitale. Mutuelle services are provided by insurance firms and there are many different offers to consider.
In order to obtain a social security card for health care; a “Carte Vitale”, you must first register with your local CPAM; you are advised to contact them in order to obtain details of the documents they require for registration.
This is a must the national health service works in a very different way to that of the UK, the main difference being that you often have to pay for your treatment upfront, and then claim the cost back from the authorities.
This is something you have to bear in mind if you are moving house to France. Costs are not always reimbursed completely either, leaving the patient to fund the shortfall, and this is where top-up health cover (known as a complémentaire or mutuelle) comes in. Top tip: take out a top-up health insurance policy, unless you are prepared to pay the extra charges yourself.
The UK basic state pension is payable in France. If you are relocating to France from the UK you should inform the IPC of the changes to your circumstances. This will prevent any problems with your pension payments. It will also help you to get the right access to healthcare.

Importing your UK-registered vehicle from the UK
If you spend longer than six months of the year in France with your UK-registered car, the law states that you must register your vehicle with the authorities. For information on how to do this, please contact your local prefecture.

UK-registered vehicles being driven in France must comply with all UK requirements for road tax, MOT, and third party insurance covering the whole period the vehicle is used in France, up to the six-month limit.

Schools In France
The school system in France is divided into several levels, including preschool (école maternelle), primary school (école primaire), secondary school (collège), and upper secondary school (lycée).
Preschool education in France is not compulsory but is widely available and serves children between the ages of three and six. Primary education is mandatory for all children aged six to eleven and is provided by public and private schools throughout the country. The curriculum typically includes subjects such as French language, mathematics, history, geography, science, and physical education.
After completing primary school, students move on to the collège, which covers grades six through nine. The collège curriculum includes a broader range of subjects and prepares students for their secondary education.
Lycées, or upper secondary schools, offer both general and vocational tracks. The general track, known as the lycée général, prepares students for the French Baccalauréat (Bac) examination, which is required for admission to universities in France.
The vocational track, known as the lycée professionnel, focuses on practical skills and prepares students for vocational careers.
In addition to the public school system, France also has private schools, including Catholic schools, international schools, and specialised institutions. Private schools often have their own curriculum and may follow different educational approaches.
