Packing your possessions when moving home is a huge nightmare.
Most people hire a Removal Company who can pack everything, transfer it to the moving van and unpack when they reach their destination.
Of course, you would have to pay much more for these services. Therefore, if you are looking to save a little more money when moving, here are some useful packing tips you can do on your own.
Pack Using The Right Size Boxes
All heavy items such as books should be packed in smaller boxed. Linens, pillows and other light items should be packed in bigger boxes. Most professional removal companies always complain when heavy items are packed in large boxes. That is because doing so makes their work harder and also it increases the chances of the heavy items breaking.
Order Of Arranging In Boxes
If you don’t have enough packing boxes, you can always get large ones to fix everything inside. However, if that’s the cases, you should always place the heavier items at the bottom while the lighter ones should be placed at the top. Also, if you are loading the moving van on your own, you should place the heavier boxes near the front to provide more balance during transit.
No Empty Spaces
Packing on your own can be quite hectic, especially if you are not doing it right. If you use too many boxes and leave too much space in each of the boxes, there is a chance that the movers will decline moving your possessions for you. Therefore, if there is any space left in the box, you should fill it using packing paper, clothes, towels or anything light. Items that are unbalanced or packed loosely will often jiggle during the move and could easily break before you reach your destination.
Keep Everything Separate
If you are saving on boxes, you might be tempted to pack things from different rooms in the same boxes. However, that can be quite complicating when it comes to unpacking. Therefore, put everything in one room in the same box and the others in different boxes. Doing this will make packing so much easier and unpacking will be effortless.
Proper Labelling
Make sure each box is labelled with the room the items have been packed from. If possible, you can make a small description of the content inside. This will make it easier for the movers to know where each box is destined when unpacking your items in the new place. You can also choose to number every box and keep a small list of inventory. That way, you can keep track of everything you have packed to avoid any missing possessions once you have reached your destination.
Tape The Seams On The Boxes Accordingly
Use a lot of tape to close the top and the bottom seams of the packing boxes. That way, you can make sure your items don’t fall or break during transit because the boxes are not taped properly. If possible, you can run the tape around the top and bottom of the box to make sure everything is safe and secure.
