How Much Does Document Shredding Cost in London? 2026 Price Guide

How Much Does Document Shredding Cost in London in 2026?

If you have old bank statements, business records, customer files, invoices, contracts or boxes of confidential paperwork taking up space, professional document shredding can be far easier than spending hours feeding sheets through a domestic shredder.

But how much does document shredding cost in London?

The answer varies considerably. Some companies charge by the bag, others by the box or weight, while collection fees, minimum charges and volume requirements can all affect the final bill.

At Central Moves, we believe confidential shredding should have straightforward pricing.

Our document shredding service currently starts from just £7 per standard bag for quantities of 1–10 bags, with lower per-bag rates available when you have more paperwork to destroy.

That makes professional shredding accessible not just to large companies, but also to households, self-employed people, home offices and smaller businesses.

This guide explains current document shredding costs, what you should look for when comparing prices and how to work out what you are really paying rather than relying on a headline figure.

Central Moves Document Shredding Prices

Knowing the price before arranging a service makes it much easier to decide whether professional shredding is worthwhile.

Central Moves currently operates a simple volume-based pricing structure.

1–10 Bags: £7 Per Bag

For smaller household clear-outs, home offices, self-employed customers and businesses with a modest amount of paperwork, our current rate is:

£7 per standard bag + VAT.

If collection is required, our published collection charge is:

£12 + VAT.

11–20 Bags: £5.50 Per Bag

Once you have more than ten bags, the price per bag falls to:

£5.50 per standard bag + VAT.

21–100 Bags: £5 Per Bag

For larger archive clearances and business jobs, our current rate reduces again to:

£5 per standard bag + VAT.

For quantities above 100 bags, contact Central Moves and we can provide a bespoke quotation based on the quantity and collection requirements.

Our pricing is based on a standard shredding bag filled to its maximum fill line or approximately the volume of a medium archive carton. If your paperwork is already stored in different bags or boxes, the volume can be assessed against the standard size.

You can either bring your confidential paperwork to Central Moves or arrange collection from your home or workplace.

Once your documents have been securely shredded, we can also provide a Certificate of Destruction.

What Does Document Shredding Actually Cost?

A per-bag price is useful, but working out the complete job price makes comparison far easier.

5 bags of paperwork

Drop-off:
5 × £7 = £35 + VAT

With collection:
£35 + £12 = £47 + VAT

This could be suitable for someone clearing out years of household paperwork, a home office or a small business carrying out an annual records clear-out.

10 bags of paperwork

Drop-off:
10 × £7 = £70 + VAT

With collection:
£70 + £12 = £82 + VAT

15 bags of paperwork

At the 11–20 bag rate:

Drop-off:
15 × £5.50 = £82.50 + VAT

With collection:
£82.50 + £12 = £94.50 + VAT

20 bags of paperwork

Drop-off:
20 × £5.50 = £110 + VAT

With collection:
£110 + £12 = £122 + VAT

50 bags of paperwork

At the 21–100 bag rate:

Drop-off:
50 × £5 = £250 + VAT

With collection:
£250 + £12 = £262 + VAT

These examples show why it is worth considering the quantity you have before arranging shredding. With Central Moves, the price per bag falls as the quantity increases.

How Do Central Moves Shredding Prices Compare in London?

Searching for document shredding in London reveals a surprisingly wide range of prices and charging structures.

At the time this guide was checked in August 2026, another established London removals and shredding provider was publicly advertising a rate of £10 per standard shredding bag + VAT.

Central Moves currently advertises:

£7 per standard bag + VAT for 1–10 bags.

That makes our entry-level advertised per-bag rate 30% lower than a published £10-per-bag rate.

What does that mean for 10 bags?

At £10 per bag:

10 bags = £100 + VAT

At Central Moves’ current £7 rate:

10 bags = £70 + VAT when dropped off

Or:

£82 + VAT including our £12 collection charge.

Potential Saving on 10 Bags

Compared with a £10-per-bag service:

Central Moves drop-off: save £30 before VAT

Central Moves collection: save £18 before VAT

Comparison based on publicly advertised prices checked in August 2026. Prices, VAT, bag capacities, collection terms and service conditions can vary between providers, so always compare like for like.

We would not recommend choosing a shredding provider solely because one number looks lower than another.

Instead, compare the complete price of the job.

What Affects the Cost of Document Shredding?

Several factors can change the final price of professional shredding.

1. How much paperwork you have

Volume is one of the biggest factors.

A household with two bags of old statements has very different requirements from a company clearing 80 archive cartons.

Higher volumes can often reduce the price per bag. This is why Central Moves’ current rates fall from £7 to £5.50 and then £5 as the quantity increases.

2. Collection charges

Always check whether collection is included in an advertised price.

A company can advertise an attractive bag price but add a collection charge, service charge or minimum call-out fee afterwards.

Central Moves currently publishes its collection charge clearly at £12 + VAT where collection is required.

3. Drop-Off or Collected Shredding

If you only have a few bags and can easily get to us, dropping them off yourself will normally be the cheapest option.

You can see the available options on our confidential shredding service page.

4. Bag and Box Sizes

A “bag of shredding” is not necessarily identical between providers.

When comparing quotations, check the size or capacity of the bag as well as its price.

Central Moves bases its prices on a standard shredding bag filled to the maximum fill line or approximately the volume of a medium archive carton.

5. One-Off or Regular Shredding

Some organisations accumulate confidential paperwork continuously.

Rather than carrying out one huge annual clear-out, regular collections can help keep document disposal under control.

Central Moves can arrange regular confidential waste collections for businesses where required.

Collection or Drop-Off Shredding: Which Is Better Value?

For a small amount of shredding, dropping your paperwork off can produce the lowest possible price because you avoid the collection charge.

For example, four bags currently cost:

Drop-off: £28 + VAT

Collection: £40 + VAT

Whether paying the extra £12 is worthwhile depends on how much paperwork you have and how convenient transporting it yourself would be.

Drop-off may make sense when:

  • you only have a few bags;
  • you can transport them safely yourself;
  • you are reasonably close to Central Moves;
  • keeping the total shredding cost as low as possible is your priority.

Collection may make sense when:

  • you have numerous bags or archive cartons;
  • the paperwork is stored in an office;
  • documents are heavy or awkward to move;
  • you do not have suitable transport;
  • convenience is more important than saving £12.

A £12 collection charge spread across 30, 40 or 50 bags makes relatively little difference to the effective cost of each bag.

Affordable Document Shredding for Households

Professional shredding is not only for banks, accountants or large organisations.

Most homes accumulate personal documents over time.

These can include:

  • old bank statements;
  • credit card statements;
  • expired insurance documents;
  • utility bills;
  • old payslips;
  • financial correspondence;
  • mortgage paperwork;
  • old employment records;
  • copies of identification documents;
  • personal correspondence containing sensitive information.

For a handful of documents, using a suitable domestic shredder can be perfectly practical.

Once you have several boxes or bags, however, the job can quickly become time-consuming.

Domestic shredders have limited capacities, bins need emptying repeatedly and machines may require cooling periods during prolonged use.

Professional shredding provides a way of dealing with the entire backlog at once.

With Central Moves’ current price starting from £7 per standard bag, professional shredding can be realistic even for relatively small household clear-outs.

Document Shredding Costs for Businesses

Businesses can accumulate large quantities of paperwork containing information about:

  • customers;
  • employees;
  • suppliers;
  • payments and transactions;
  • contracts;
  • payroll;
  • applications;
  • invoices and quotations;
  • internal business operations.

Once documents reach the end of an appropriate retention period, organisations need to consider how they will dispose of them securely.

The Information Commissioner’s Office guidance on destroying documents specifically identifies shredding services as an option and advises businesses using a third party to make sure they are satisfied that the company is reputable and will destroy the documents securely.

Professional shredding can also save considerable staff time.

Instead of asking employees to feed thousands of sheets through an office shredder, records can be gathered securely and dealt with as a bulk job.

If shredding forms part of a wider workplace clearance or relocation, Central Moves also provides commercial office relocation services in London, covering planning, packing, transport, storage and business moves.

Clearing an Office Archive?

Not every document needs destroying immediately.

Some records may still need to be retained for operational, financial, contractual or legal reasons.

Where documents must be kept but are taking up valuable workspace, Central Moves also offers data and document storage.

This creates three practical options during an office or archive clear-out:

  • keep documents you actively need;
  • store records that must be retained but do not require daily access;
  • securely shred records that are no longer required.

This can be particularly useful when moving office, downsizing premises, converting filing space or carrying out a records-management review.

Cheap Shredding Should Still Be Secure Shredding

Price matters, but confidential shredding should not be selected on price alone.

The reason for shredding sensitive records is to make sure information that should no longer exist cannot simply be retrieved from discarded paperwork.

The ICO advises organisations to dispose of information securely when it is no longer required and recognises shredding as an appropriate destruction method for paper documents.

You should therefore understand:

  • how your documents will be handled;
  • where documents go after collection;
  • how material awaiting destruction is secured;
  • how destruction is recorded;
  • whether proof of destruction is available.

Central Moves provides documentation confirming destruction through its secure document shredding service.

What Is a Certificate of Destruction?

A Certificate of Destruction provides a record that confidential material has been destroyed.

This can be particularly useful for businesses maintaining a records-management or compliance audit trail.

Central Moves’ certificate records information about the destruction of the documents following the shredding process.

For household customers, it also provides additional reassurance that paperwork entrusted to a professional shredding company has been processed.

How to Compare Document Shredding Companies

If you are getting several quotations, do not simply ask:

“How much is a bag?”

Instead, consider the following questions.

What is the price per bag?

Check whether it changes according to quantity.

What size is the shredding bag?

A £5 bag is not necessarily better value than a £7 bag if it holds substantially less paperwork.

Is there a collection charge?

Find out the complete cost before booking.

Is there a minimum order?

Some commercial shredding services may be aimed primarily at large businesses.

Is VAT included?

Check whether advertised prices include or exclude VAT.

Can I drop documents off?

For smaller jobs this can significantly reduce the final price.

Will I receive a Certificate of Destruction?

This can be especially important for businesses and organisations handling confidential information.

Are volume discounts available?

Ask what happens to the price when you have 20, 50 or 100 bags.

Central Moves automatically reduces its current per-bag rate as quantities increase.

Is £7 Per Bag Good Value for Document Shredding in London?

Based on published London prices reviewed while preparing this guide, we believe £7 per bag represents a highly competitive entry-level rate for secure document shredding.

Importantly, you do not need dozens of bags to access that price.

The current Central Moves rates are:

  • 1–10 bags: £7 per bag + VAT
  • 11–20 bags: £5.50 per bag + VAT
  • 21–100 bags: £5 per bag + VAT
  • Collection: £12 + VAT where required

For more than 100 bags, we can provide a bespoke quotation.

All prices remain subject to access and confirmation by Central Moves and are subject to VAT.
